polka dots and more polka dots

On Sunday, I just had to wear this new dress I which I had bought on Friday, while in Omaha. It was my birthday and I spent an absolutely lovely day going to the zoo, eating at a cute diner, and discovering an awesome vintage/thrift store that was having a $1 sale! In addition to this dress, I got a comfy sweater and adorable gladiator sandals. A great birthday present to myself!

The polka dots of the dress really wanted to spend some time with the ones on my sweater, so I had to oblige them. I completed the outfit with the flower belt that I inherited last year and my black boots, since it's getting cold this time of year.

summer days

[jacket: hand-me-down from a friend; dress: walmart.com; shoes: Target; necklace: gift]

These were taken this summer, when I was spending some time in Iowa. There was an utterly lovely period of weather that was so similar to the Seattle area's weather! Upper sixties, slightly cloudy, bits of sunshine, a little rain....yummy. Annnnd then a couple of weeks later it was upper 90s, super humid, and I had to move into an apartment with zero air conditioning. Fun stuff. :P

grey on grey

[shrug: Forever21; shirt/shorts: Old Navy; shoes: Fred Meyer's]

I've had this grey sweatshirt shrug for a couple of years now,  but I haven't worn it very much before. It can be a little hard to wear because of it's unique shape. However, when I saw it lying next to this grey tank, the entire outfit came together quite quickly. :)

green+checkered skirt+denim

[shirt/skirt: thrifted; jacket: handmedown from a friend; shoes: Target/Mossimo]

These were taken last week, in Iowa. I stayed in Iowa for the first month of summer and worked at my college. Now I'm back in Washington and enjoying a bit of relaxation from work. However, the three online classes I'm taking are keeping me from utter laziness. My human bio class in particular is driving me insane...there's so much information to cover and I never know what's gonna be on the tests. :P I could never be in the sciences.....

my favorite looks from the 2013 oscars

Although I wasn't able to watch the Oscars this year (homework, blech), I couldn't miss out on all the gorgeous dresses! Here are my favorites, loosely in order from least to most favorite. :)
 (source: http://oscar.go.com/red-carpet)

Jane Fonda. I mostly love this dress for the bright color. Not a lot of ladies wear such bright colors to the Oscars, so this one stands out. I also like the gold detail at the waist. The entire look is pretty 80s, which isn't necessarily a good thing, but I think it fits her.

Love Adele's 60s hair and makeup!

I used to hate shoulder pads... But Halle Berry's dress uses them so well! I am also a fan of the contrasting stripes.

Love the simple lines and the stark white of Charlize Theron's dress. Also digging her short hair! She is so gorgeous.

Gold is such a great color on Catherine Zeta-Jones. The swirl decorations on the skirt are beautiful and the huge earrings are a great touch.

Lara Spencer. I like this dress mostly for the shape of the one shoulder, which is a nice change from other one shoulder dresses. I wish I could see the bottom of the dress. I also really love her natural hair and makeup.

I love the lines on Norah Jones' dress. I also like the shade of dark grey.

Octavia Spencer's dress is a lovely shade of light peach. I love the addition of dark red nail polish, it complements the dress well.

Love the sheer sleeves and emerald ring of Sally Field's look.

Reece Witherspoon is always gorgeous. Even though this shade of blue is one of my least favorite colors, it looks amazing with her blonde hair. The entire dress fits her very well and I love the train.

Naomi Watts looks lovely in this shiny silver dress. I love the cutout on the shoulder. The cutout and the shininess add interest to the otherwise simple dress.

I read someone describe Salma Hayek's outfit as alluding to Cleopatra, who is one of my favorite historical figures. I love the high, gold neck and black skirt on this dress. She also looks gorgeous with the high hairstyle.

Jennifer Aniston's look was one of my absolute favorites. I think this dress is just perfect on her. It's simple, classy, and her hair and makeup are stunning.

I love love love Jennifer Lawrence's outfit. I like how the dress is form fitting on the top and then blossoms out into a gorgeous skirt. Her earrings and clutch look great with the dress. She is so beautiful!
